SnowShepherd Glove Information. Do's and Dont's 

Firstly, as we all know all gloves have a big design flaw and that includes Snowshepherd ones, they all have a big hole in one end! ... Where water, snow, rain, beer, wine and even gin and tonic can get in, so what can we do to help keep our gloves warm, dry and of course breathable. 

WATERPROOF, Well as far as I know the only truly water proof gloves are marigolds, but they don’t breathe, so it’s always a play off between breathability and water resistance. Our new leather is waterproof as it can be.

DON'T drop them in water to find out.

DON’T, it does not work with Snowshepherd’s waterproof and breathable membrane from Hypora, yep, a really thin plastic liner does not respond well to overheating in an Oven, in fact, if overheated, it makes them NOT breathable at all. WARMTH, is not all about the glove, core body temperature and clothing also come into play, if your core is not warm enough even the best gloves in the world will not keep your hands warm. 

DON’T buy gloves that are too small it’s better to be slightly on the larger size, they trap more air inside and on super cold days a silk liner is wearable. 

DON’T and I see this all the time, when you stop for a break skiing or for lunch, leave your gloves in the cold air for example on the table in front of you! 

DO put them inside your jacket or mid layer, I find under the armpits or down your side the best option, OK, this can make your figure look a little odd, but this will keep your gloves warm so when you put them back on you don’t get that instant OH my gloves are cold! 

WET GLOVES, we all get it in bad weather, or very warm weather or just compressing snow on your ski pole handles can make your gloves wet. Drying your gloves properly is important, this is where that 'design flaw' comes into play. Make sure the gloves are open and upright so that warmer air can circulate into the bottom of the glove. To keep our guide gloves open you can use a paper toilet roll holder or a plastic cup with the bottom taken out, this keeps the gloves open and lets air circulate. 

DON’T lay them flat on a radiator in the apartment or chalet, standing them upright on the cuffs is better. 

DO use boot dryers in chalets to dry out wet gloves works really well but make sure the ends of the gloves are open to let air circulate, if they are sealed around the dryer, it will take longer to dry. 

DO use the inside leather loop for your wrist straps. 

DON’T turn the gloves inside out, they are a pain to get back in properly, also on new gloves always take off holding the fingers so you don’t pull the liners out. Once your gloves are broken in the liners will stay in place much better.
